WHAT USERS AND PURCHASERS OF INA YOUNG'S "TASTY TAPES"© HAVE TO SAY

1- "Please send me your newest 'Safe Cooking Without Looking' Tasty Tape. My blind father, now retired from his own business, was going stir crazy until we got him your cassettes. Now he's happy and turning into a really terrific chef!"

2- "I am one of the sighted volunteers of your cooking class for the blind. As you know, I guide one of the blind class members in and out, help with hand washing, etc. Every lesson, I'm totally amazed how that class, following your special cooking techniques, turns out a full meal that's so delicious for over 30 people. Then I go home and use your safety methods for myself. I'd like to buy my own tapes, please."

3- "Even though I'm ten years old, I didn't know the first thing about cooking-not even how to make fudge. My mother heard of your tapes and she got a set for me because I can't hurt myself in the kitchen using your safety methods. Last night I surprised her with the whole supper I made myself using your recipes. I can see fine, but I like using these methods to learn safe cooking. Thanks!"

4- "I'm a member of the Radio Reading Services For the Blind that airs your special radio cooking show for visually impaired people. All of us sighted workers here in the radio station love your safety methods and try out your great recipes at home."

EXCERPT FROM SPECIAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:
"THE SAFEST WAY TO BROWN OR SAUTE MEAT OR POULTRY- INSTEAD OF BROWNING THE FOOD ON TOP OF THE STOVE IN A FRYING PAN FULL OF HOT OIL THAT COULD SPATTER AND BURN YOU, USE THE FOLLOWING METHOD:
WITH CLEAN HANDS OR A PIECE OF PAPER TOWELLING, RUB A LITTLE OLIVE OIL OR COOKING OIL OVER EACH PIECE OF MEAT OR CHICKEN. SEASON THE FOOD ACCORDING TO YOUR "TASTY TAPE" RECIPE DIRECTIONS. PLACE FOOD IN A LARGE ROASTING PAN OR ON A COOKIE SHEET, AND DO NOT CROWD OR OVERLAP THE PIECES. PLACE THE PAN IN THE BROILER ON A SHELF THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY SET FOUR INCHES BELOW WHERE THE FLAME WILL APPEAR. TURN ON THE BROILER, AND BROIL THE OILED PIECES OF FOOD FOR 8 OR 9 MINUTES. TURN OFF THE BROILER AND ALLOW THE PAN TO COOL AT LEAST 15 MINUTES SO YOU CAN SAFELY TAKE IT OUT, USING THE TWO LONG OVEN MITTS THAT COVER YOUR HANDS AND LOWER ARMS. THE FOOD WILL BE BROWNED ON BOTH SIDES (FROM THE HOT PAN BOTTOM AND FROM THE FLAME ABOVE) WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO TURN THE PIECES."

(PUBLISHER'S NOTE: There are innumerable other safety techniques on these cassettes and in the matching manuals that, if followed, make it virtually impossible for a user, sighted or not, to hurt himself. Plan to buy 1 or more of these 5 tapes, preferably the whole kit in its own protective case, and be absolutely amazed! The food is great and the safety methods are exceptional.)

2) GYPSIES OF INDIA

Collected & Edited By David MacRitchie(original © in 1886),
re-copyrighted and made available by Homer Cates in 1997

This book is a highly reviewed authentic account of the origins of gypsies in India, as well as their travels through Asia, Europe and Africa. It notes the similarities of the tribes throughout the world in behavior, in occupations, in dress and especially in language.

Many libraries, both in the United States and Europe, have purchased this book. "The Gypsies of India" contains a remarkable map showing the gypsies' wanderings.

WHAT READERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT "THE GYPSIES OF INDIA"

A) From reviewer John Moore, a PhD linguistics Professor from University of So. California San Diego: "This book is a reprinting of the 1886 edition, complete with the original maps and a preface by Homero Cates. I highly recommend this for anyone with an interest in the history of gypsies, as it represents a unique contribution to this field, one which was not readily available until Mr. Cates' reprinting in 1997."

B) Ibrahim Hammiti, Middle Eastern scholar and Historian, La Jolla, CA: "It has been quite a while since I have read, not once, but 3 times so far, a book as interesting and Homero Cates' recently re-published "The Gypsies of India". It is crammed with information and notes and references. Homero is due a standing ovation and thank you for taking the trouble to bring this book back to print."

C) A library comment: "We pride ourselves upon the accuracy of our books. 'The Gypsies of India' fills a real need on our library shelf."

D) Comment from a gypsy gentleman of New York City: "My people have been driven from pillar to post throughout the centuries, often suffering from fables and lies passed on by persecutors. The movie 'Lacho Drom' depicts my people's wanderings with truth, and this book, 'The Gypsies of India', does the same using the printed word. We of Gypsy origin offer a heart-felt 'Thank you' to David MacRitchie and Homer Cates."

A SAMPLE FREE READ FROM "THE GYPSIES OF INDIA"

A) (From Homer Cates' Introduction)

(This book) " is an example of the Gypsyphile axiom that 'one will not find books ABOUT the Gypsy written BY a Gypsy, only pallos or cadge writing about the Gypsy.' Most Gypsies have shunned written communication because it has been used against them from the time they left India about 1400 years ago, as human gifts from one imperial ruler to another."

B) (Pages 219 and 220)

"Among the gypsies of Roumelia, and of various parts of Turkey, is a certain subdivision called the Zaparis, or Djaparis..... By blood and language, they declare themselves to be the purest specimen of the gypsy type in the Ottoman Empire...." "The true gypsy, as represented by them, is described in these terms- "His figure is erect, and wiry, his mien is savage, his complexion tawny, his hair black, and his eyes are black and glittering. He abhors his connections with the Sedentary class, and holds all house-dwellers in contempt."

Catalog # D01......Cost in the United States $27.00 plus $3 P & H, in other countries...$30 plus $5 postage and handling.
